Our story
The story behind our autonomous production system.
We're the team behind Underscore_, the French tech talk show. For six years, we've been producing multi-camera shoots, and for six years, we've faced the same problems.
A binary choice
When an organization wants to produce video content, it has two options.
Outsource: a four-person crew shows up for several days to capture a fifteen-minute interview. Significant budget, heavy logistics.
In-house: buy equipment and figure it out. But limits appear quickly. Sound remains a constant worry, room acoustics are never optimal, and managing rushes generates its share of incidents.
For most organizations, 10% of failed shoots is unacceptable.
Built for ourselves first
We wanted to control our production without depending on contractors, but we spent too much time solving problems: bugs, corrupted rushes, hours lost reconfiguring the studio. So we developed our own solution.
The first building block was an autonomous director: a system that analyzes audio, detects conversation dynamics, and selects the appropriate shot in real-time. We collaborated with professional directors to make the result indistinguishable from human work. The initial prototype took three weeks, but it took a year and a half and about fifty shows to reach the robustness we needed.
The turning point
Visitors walk into our studio mid-shoot: multiple cameras, multiple guests, fluid transitions. They look around for the control room. Nobody.
Our vision
An autonomous production system where you connect your cameras, mics and lights, configure your visual identity and formats once, and you're done. Any team member can come record, without training, without a technical crew.
